Hey INTICA, How did you get into music?
My mom surrounded me with instruments and music growing up. I didn’t really find a passion for it until after high school when I realized I could be just like all the musicians I wished I could be. I started posting covers online where a producer found me, I flew out to Pittsburgh and spent a couple weeks making music. It was one of the best times of my life and I couldn’t have imagined myself doing anything else after that trip.
Who are some of your musical influences?
Twenty One Pilots and Paramore have been my biggest influences from the beginning, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Beauty School Dropout, Ren, and Dominic Fike.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Do what you’re afraid to do
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw a lot of inspiration from cinema, books, as well as other music. Every time I’m stuck I try to find an artist that I’ve never listened to before, just to listen to how they create their songs or how they play with the lyrics, and that helps spark my own ideas.
What are your thoughts on the current state of the music industry?
I feel like as an independent artist I should probably say something good about the music industry here but it’s really not an easy industry to be apart of. It’s a lot of no’s and getting shut down or told your music isn’t good enough, It’s competitive and I’ve found it’s not a very supportive community. Don’t get me wrong I am grateful for every opportunity I’m given and for every single person who has ever listened to my music, these days it just seems like it’s less about the music and more about money or being better than everyone else. We all have this big love for music, we’re all here for the same reason, and I think people just forget that sometimes.
What’s the story behind your latest single, ”RUN!”?
RUN! is about about the desire to break free from the burdens of life and embark on a journey of self-discovery. I wanted it to feel like a fresh start, an embrace of freedom.
Why should people listen to it?
It’s the perfect song for a summer drive!
How do you know when a work is finished?
Honestly it’s so hard to say that it’s done, I spend so much time trying to make it sound exactly how I want it to sound and a lot of the time I end up giving in to the fact that it won’t ever sound perfect.
What are your favorite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
I listen to pretty much everything, there aren’t really any genres that I dislike. I think art is art and I end up finding a lot of inspiration from music that I wouldn’t normally listen to!
Would you like to say anything to emerging artists?
You can’t live your dreams if you give up on them, no matter how hard it gets keep going!
