Could you tell me a few things about yourself?
I’m Dave Lightfoot, lead singer, and guitarist in the indie garage rock band; the Fades
What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?
It takes time to be comfortable in your own skin with a lot of things in life, but believing in yourself, self-determination, and being at ease with yourself are very important. Enjoy it, but also study it, play and practice, and listen to and absorb the sounds around you.
What does music mean to you?
Music and art are what make us more than just automatons. It’s what elevates us above the noise. It’s the essence of all things spiritual and human. Music can alter and affect, it can enhance and elevate everything.
What could you tell me about your new single, ” Drives Me On ”?
Drives Me On is the last single from our latest album ‘Night Terrors’. The track is a song about getting overwhelmed with all your thoughts and feelings. Trying to get yourself out of a rut and move forward. Telling someone that they are the person who helps you do that. The lifeblood that drives you on. A love song, an ode to a true friend.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
As mentioned above, music has the power to enhance and elevate any scenario. It has the power to affect your mood. It’s a soundtrack to your life, a soundtrack to your inner monologue. I can hear a song in the background and it has the power to change how I’m feeling more than anything else. And when I’m playing music with the guys, there’s nothing more that can make me laugh or buzz as much as that
What are your plans for the future?
We are playing loads of gigs to support the new album, but will also be releasing 3 brand-new singles over the year. The first of which will be dropping in June and we will be throwing a bit party at 229 Club in London for it.
What important message you would like to share with our readers?
Whether you’re playing, writing, or listening to music – make sure you keep doing it. Keep feeling it. There’s a lot of crap going on in the World right now and life is tough. You need that tonic, that balm of music and art to help you make life more meaningful, and more tolerable. Also, please go out and support your local venues. Go to gigs, go to have a drink, and take a chance on a band you haven’t heard before. There won’t be many venues left if we don’t keep going out to them
What do you feel is the best song that you have ever released and why?
That is a very hard question…… I’m a big fan of the single ‘Joy’ as it was written a long time ago and eventually made its way onto the ‘Ragnarok’ album. I also have a soft spot for ‘You Say’, as it was the first single we ever released and it was the track that got us noticed. We put that out and then everything changed. Suddenly we were all over the radio and our career was off. But, I think my favorite song at the moment is ‘Night Terrors’, as it seems to encapsulate everything about the Fades. Big riffs and catchy melodies, with some psych weirdness and introspective, but sometimes tongue-in-cheek lyrics.
