Hey, How did you get into music?
I’ve always kind of been “into it,” I can’t recall a specific moment. I do remember being in high school AV and theater production and taking an interest in sound design. I remember in college loving livestreams of self produced artists working on their next song. But I’ve always loved music, ever since I was little. My dad used to share his classic rock taste with me and I gravitated towards that ever since.
Who are some of your musical influences?
I’ve lyrically been inspired by Taylor Swift, Green Day, and The Band Camino. Sound wise is many alternative artists like Halsey and Lana Del Rey.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Feel your feelings, but don’t unpack and live there.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Myself, my life experiences, and sometimes the experiences of my friends and lived ones
What are your thoughts on the current state of the music industry?
As an ever growing industry a million eyes on it, its easy for everyone to pick up on the negatives. I think there’s always some improvement that can be made. I love seeing younger and newer artists sticking up for themselves and taking control of their craft, and being more than just a product for consumption.
What’s the story behind your latest album, ”Paper House”?
Long winded, but I had a previous engagement that didn’t quite work out. And it wasn’t the healthiest of relationships either. It happened right when I finished school and was trying to break into the industry. I decided I wanted write about it.
Can you shortly describe each of the tracks that are on the album?
Sure, the beginning tracks are in that ethereal “I’m in love” mantra. No Pressure, Dreamcatcher. Then the more you listen to the middle tracks like Winter, Nothing From Nothing, and London, you’re starting to realize it’s more dark than you actually thought and you need to leave. Then ypu get to the end with Pretend and It’s All Over; they talk about moving on and acceptance that it didn’t work.
Why should people listen to it?
If you enjoy stories, this one is perfect. It’s lyrically and emotionally in order from the beginning to end. There’s something on this album for everyone to enjoy
How do you know when a work is finished?
To be honest, it almost never feels done. I’ve gotten that validation from other artists that our work is always cut out for us. Although for me, I can always conclude a subject in a song as it stands, and then maybe bring it up again later on. If you’re like me and share your life story, it’s never ending. But that’s the beauty of it. I’ll always have something to say, so I hope people will be there to listen.
What are your favorite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
I’ve recently burned into folk and folk-pop. I’ve normally stuck with rock, pop, and alternative but, I don’t know I guess I have a soft spot for it. I don’t like to say that there’s genres I don’t like, rather I just don’t gravitate towards them. I’m not super into rap and hip hop, but I have friends who are and they’re cool. I’d never bash that.
Would you like to say anything to emerging artists?
Keep a close eye on those who celebrate your wins, and those who stick with you when you fall. Those are the people you need to keep around you.
