Interview with Mexx Heart about “Nothing From Nothing”

Could you tell me a few things about yourself?

A few fun facts: I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, I went to school in Tempe, Arizona and my first Warped tour was in 2014 – I went every year until they stopped!

What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

I love meeting people. I love engaging and finding things in common with strangers. Other musicians and songwriters are a plus, too.

What does music mean to you?

It’s a universal language. There’s something out there for everyone – different genres, artist eras, communities, fan bases; it’s near impossible to find something you’d never like. So, I never trust someone who says they don’t like music!

What could you tell me about your new single, ”Nothing From Nothing”?

Have you ever been in a bad relationship that you just know is basically over, but for some reason, you just haven’t broken up yet? Maybe you have a friend’s birthday or a family event you already agreed to go to, so you just put on a brave face and keep going. Maybe you think if you keep faking it, things will work themselves out even though everyone around you can tell neither party wanna do this anymore. It’s like that. Emotional labor before heartbreak.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

The never-ending creative cycle. There’s always something new to write, a new artist popping up, or another writer’s round your friends are going to. There’s always something to do or create. It’s amazing!

What are your plans for the future?

To keep working on my music and sharing my stories and passion with the world.

What important message you would like to share with our readers?

Treat others how you would like to be treated, REGARDLESS if you think they deserve it or not.

What do you feel is the best song that you have ever released and why?

I think “Nothing From Nothing” is the best. Zelle (producer) brought the vision to life perfectly with the track. When I perform it live, it’s always a hit. It’s such a specific area in a failed relationship, too, that I don’t think people spend too much time thinking about it. I think that’s why they like it!
