Hey, could you tell me a few things about yourself?
Hi! I’m a harpist, composer, and arranger living in Brooklyn, NY with my husband, Marc, and our fur baby, Argos. Aside from music, I love tennis (the US Open is one of my favorite late summer activities!) but mostly I love spending time with my dog, taking long walks or frolicking on a beach.
What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?
I think being versatile and open to new experiences is important. I mean, I’m just as comfortable playing center stage at Carnegie Hall or collaborating with a hip hop artist. Walking into any room with a smile and an open personality sets the mood for a “good hang.” Of course it helps to have an inherent sense of good rhythm and warm tone, too. I think I have a unique style that’s a blend of my classical roots and my pop sensibility.
What does music mean to you?
Music is the current running through my soul that allows me to share my deepest truths and emotions with audiences through my performances. To say that I “wear my heart on my sleeve” is accurate, but you’ll only read that here. Honestly, music means the world to me.
What could you tell me about your new album, ”Aquamarine”?
Aquamarine is a New age harp album, written as an homage to my late Mother and our shared love of the ocean. The music is imbued with memories of her and the treasured times we spent together, taking long beach walks, picking up shells, and talking about life. I hope she can hear it on the other side – I know she’d be really proud of me.
Can you shortly describe each of the tracks that are on the album?
Each of the tracks has a water theme and tells a story about the ocean from the glistening title track to the final trio “Into The Mist”, featuring Dave Eggar on cello and Maggie Gould Wilson on violin. The track “I Am Water” is currently featured on the South African charitable trust I Am Water Foundation website.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
I can express many different emotions through music, whether it be elation or grief, joy or frustration. It is the conduit for the many colors, shapes, and images that appear in my mind when performing. I’m especially moved listening to Beethoven Symphonies – there’s something about the power that bubbles up in his work that just gets me every time.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m already thinking about my next album! I’ve also just launched a new harp/violin duo called Kiale with my colleague, Alicia Enstrom. We have lots of new music releasing in the coming months that will put you to sleep. LOL. It’s all ambient spa music. You can also hear me performing in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring The Rockettes this winter.
What important message would you like to share with our readers?
Honor your moments of mindfulness and take time to find simple joys in your day.
What do you feel is the best song that you have ever released and why?
Based on audience reaction, I’d have to choose “Message From The Trees” which has close to 3 million streams on Spotify. It’s a peaceful, lulling track and I imagine that’s what resonates with listeners.
