Interview with Kace about “Temporality” (Album)

Hey, could you tell me a few things about yourself?

Hey, My name is Kace and I’m an artist from the DMV area. For those that don’t know, that’s DC, Maryland, and Virginia. I’ve been making music for about 8 years now and I’ve had ups and downs but in my mind it’s all been worth it because of this project and being able to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

The strengths that I have that I believe make me a great musician are determination, faith, discipline and an open mind. I’m open to all questions, all criticisms, all doubts, because I want to be the very best that I can be. Of course, if I know someone is coming from a place of hate then I’m ignoring, but if you genuinely want to help me better than I was, I’m all ears. I think that the last thing that makes me great is I know what sounds good. I think in order to be a great musician, you have to know how to structurally make a good song. Anyone can rap a verse, or even have the most bars in the world, or you read a hook and sing it and throw autotune on it, but to know how to structure a song, and I mean change flows here and add an effect there, or just know to let the song breathe and just have the beat play. You truly have to have the ear for this.

What does music mean to you?

Music means the world to me. Music is comfort when there’s no one there. Music is Love, but it can also be hate. That’s why I make the music that I make because it’s so much power in music. I know that music can change lives so I want those who hear me to grow and be able to be a light in this world of darkness. It’s funny because I think even before I knew it, music had a huge impact on my life. I used to always give theme songs to my immediate family members like some Outkast or Earth, Wind, and Fire songs. Of course this is before I knew the names of anything so I can’t tell you the names but if they played I would know. In this journey called life, music has done so much for me and I’m glad that it kept finding me until I knew to create it myself.

What could you tell me about your new album, ”Temporality”?

‘Temporality’ is the project for me. It’s a project that was 8 years in the making. 5 spent it being an idea with 3 years of actual work. This project encapsulates the birth of Kace. It goes through my personal trauma caused by family, classmates, being bullied, being alone, chasing love, cheating, losing loved ones and so much more. I don’t want it to come off like it’s all sad though, it’s written in a way that truly is a rollercoaster of emotions. By the end, I hope that you’ll not only know more about me, but also more about you.

Can you shortly describe each of the tracks that are on the album?

1 is ‘A Beautiful Existence.’ I would say this song means Life is Beautiful until it’s not and as someone who has so much going on in your life, what are you going to do to make sure that you don’t go down the wrong path.

Number 2 is ‘Isolation.’ This song is about me growing up alone. Isolated from friends, family, everyone, and eventually growing to love it, even thrive in it and making it my own.

Number 3 is ‘Cynical.’ This song is about the trust that I had for others being stripped away to the point where I have to ask can you trust me?

Number 4 is ‘Trinity’ and that’s about the story of me trying to get a woman that I held in high regard and the roller coaster that is.

Number 5 is ‘All Fair.’ This song is me admitting to my past toxic habits of chasing women while being in relationships.

Number 6 is ‘Kaizen’ and this song is about the confidence and passion that comes with being a rapper. Kaizen means continually improving and that’s something that I wanted to show with this song.

Number 7 is ‘Temporality’ and this is about the past, present and future of my doubts, fears, and realization that I have been going through throughout my life.

Number 8 is ‘Missing (interlude)’ and this is an interlude but it is about being broken down by life. Falling into the pit of depression.

Number 9 is ‘Peace’ and this is about the story of Kace. Without this song, this story. There is no Kace. This song is about my depression and finding a way through that with the help of friends, Music, and God.

Number 10 is ‘Once Again.’ This song is about the loss of one of my best friends. A tribute and a true look into my mind at that time.

Number 11 is ‘Success (Best Revenge)’ and this song is about the years after ‘Peace.’ Senior year, Graduation, and the summarization of this entire project. This song is the one that ties them all together into the one big story that I wanted to showcase.

Number 12 and the Final song is ‘IINTRO.’ I call it “Intro” because it’s my time to be introspective. That’s something that I love to do and this song does that perfectly. It goes over some of the project, family issues, friend issues, racial problems, my thoughts on music, and just things that I want to talk about.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

I feel passionate about music because of two reasons. God and because I’m having fun. I feel that God put me on this path for a reason. I heard him speak to me through Logic, and my heart was pulled to making the music. At first, it was quite a transition because I was trash but as time went on, I got nice, and I started having a great time doing it. I realized how fun it was for me to do and personally something that I always wanted in a career was to be sure that I’m having fun.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future would be to promote this project, song by song for the next year in order to build my brand and fanbase. I also want to do performances and collaborations with some artists I have in mind. Trying to network and branch out and truly turn this into a career.

What important message would you like to share with our readers?

The message I would like to share with readers would be to Bet on Yourself. There needs to be more people who follow what they want to do, not what they’re told to do. If you want to be a musician, a cook, an electrician, a teacher. Do it and don’t worry about how much you can get. Money is everywhere. Your happiness is only within you.

What do you feel is the best song that you have ever released and why?

The best song that I have ever released would have to be ‘Peace.’ ‘Peace’ in my opinion is just perfect. I remember recording it and thinking “Wow, I’m truly on another level right now.” I don’t know what it was but that soulful beat, with the pockets that I’m in with that flow that I have is just so amazing to the point where I question if I made it. The writing itself is just another point because it may not be the most lyrical song but it’s the most impactful because it was a beautiful way of expressing my journey to my purpose. My journey to becoming Kace. I truly think that song is my best. So far of course.
