Interview with L!nwood about “Be Kind” (single)

Hey! How did you get into music?

I started playing the piano ad writing songs for fun at around  6 years old. In high school, I started rapping and ever since then I’ve been combining my love for hip-hop and songwriting.

Who are some of your musical influences?
My rapping influences are Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Tobi Lou, Smino, Tyler the Creator, and Drake. My singing influences are Frank Ocean, Healy, Eden, and Lido.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
The best advice I have been given is to be consistent and to make the music that I want to make.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw my inspiration from my own thoughts and experiences. If I did not release my music to the world I would still make music because it is how I express and feel my emotions.

What are your thoughts on the current state of the music industry?
I think we are in an interesting place. New genres niches and artists are popping up every day.  I believe this is the best time to create music in human history.

What’s the story behind your latest single, ”Be Kind”?

“Be Kind” is a chill, dance/R&B song with a great beach vibe. It is a love song about wanting someone to show they love you through their actions and not just their words.

Why should people listen to it?

My listeners should listen to it because it gives them a glimpse into my failed love life. Also, I believe it lets people know that I am a versatile artist. I think a lot of people can relate to this song.
How do you know when a work is finished?

For every song I’ve released, I could add or take away something still. However, I’ve learned that if the verses and the chorus are right then I should add my background vocals and keep it pushing.

What are your favorite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

I love almost all kinds of music but my favorite genres are rap, alternative r&B, alternative, pop, and rock. A genre I do not like particularly is country. But there are some country songs I like.

Would you like to say anything to emerging artists?

Continue creating. Never stop creating. If you have the means to promote your work, promote it like crazy. And if you want to work with me hit me up.
