Conversation with Charlie Diamond about “On The Road”

Hi Charlie! Can you tell us about your early life and upbringing that shaped your journey into music?

I was born on a moonless night when the stars were out and the wind howled through the trees playing notes on the leaves.  In and of itself, I suppose the mysterious undercurrents of life had music in my bones from the start.

How would you describe your musical style and the key influences that have shaped it?

Poetic Folk with a Punk style.  Punk Rock and the counterculture of freedom versus society’s mold pushed me into expression when I was young.  Again the grain.  A misfit of sorts.  An outcast without many friends.  And so,  I always did my own thing and never paid attention to anything else.

Can you share some significant milestones or turning points in your musical journey so far?

In the last year I have begun playing in New York City to an amazingly warm reception and welcome.  Booking performances at Iconic Folk venues and having the beatnik art dwellers of the world come out to support for sold out shows.

What led to the creation of your latest single, “On The Road”?

“On The Road”  was a song I wrote about growing up in the country.  I’m also singing it to myself really.  reassuring myself to go after my dreams and follow my gut.

How has your sound evolved since your earlier releases, and what can fans expect from “On The Road”?

I don’t know how my sound has changed.  But, I do know where it is going and one day soon it will be the pivotal expression of Folk, Dreams, Justice, Freedom, Creativity, and Imagination.

How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life as a musician?

There is no balance in life.  I exist for music.  To create and express myself.  It has always been music or death for me.

How do you handle criticism and feedback from your audience or music critics?

.  I pay no attention to critics or the like.  I remain true to myself and create what makes me happy.  I’ve always done my own thing.

How do you stay inspired and motivated in the ever-changing music industry?

The world inspires me.  My imagination as a catalyst.  I don’t pay attention to the music industry.

How has your perspective on life and music changed throughout your career?

At a point in my life I couldn’t handle the world.  I quit my job, bought a motorcycle and drove across the United States.  I slept in a tent, wnet where I wanted, no timelines, no destinations.  I fell in love 3 times, camped with alligators, saw mountain lions in the New Mexico mountains, visited psychics , got in a knife fight, survived a texas twister, and finally found a piece of my soul in the road.  It gave me my life’s perspective and motto, “Always Take The Risk”.  Follow your gut and trust your heart.

Can you discuss any upcoming projects or collaborations that your fans can look forward to?

I have a 3rd album fully written that I will record throughout the year. I will probably release a song a month culminating in the release of the full album at the end of the year or so.  I have shows coming up in Boston, New York City, and Vermont.  With my eyes set on some Festivals.  All of which can be found on my website.
