Hello TreyWyze, let’s start from the beginning. Can you share a bit about your early life and what initially drew you to music?
My name is Trenton aka TreyWyze from Queens, NY now living in the Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas, Nevada. I grew up around lots of music starting out as a youngster listening to a lot of tunes played by my father, from Bob Marley and the Walers to the True Tones, Teddy Pendergrass etc. that had a great effect on my love for music.
Who were your musical influences growing up, and how have they shaped your sound?
I had many musical influences growing up from Bob Marley and the Walers, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson, The Sugar Hill Gang etc. However, I think hip hop had a great influence on me as a young man, especially, Rakim, LL Cool J, DJ Scott La Rock (Boogie Down Productions), Mc Shan, etc. It’s funny though, now in my later years the music I really like to create is EDM/Dance Music. I like the different kinds of energy and creativity the Genre and Sub Genres create.
Can you walk us through your creative process? How do you typically go from an idea to a finished track?
The Idea comes at different times, sometimes randomly. At any moment any time it just happens, then I will sometimes write it down or run to my computer and try to get it out of my head into my Daw even if it’s a rough draft but I at least I have something.
How do you stay motivated and creative in the music industry, especially during tough times?
It’s not hard because I love to create, mix and master music, even when times get very tough. After God, it’s my go to, I get lost in the music of what is or what could be.
What was the inspiration behind your single ‘Fya’?
I wanted to create a song that was a little different, with sparse vocals that were kind of orchestral, heavenly sounding, that’s why I chose Olha, she is a stunning vocalist, and her vocals are amazing. I thought that would make it different and make it stand out more.
Could you share a memorable experience from the recording sessions of ‘Fya’?
This is kind of cheezy, but a memorable funny moment is when I was adding my vocals for the first time ever on a track, lol that was quite challenging as I am not a singer by far, but I want to be a little creative from now on. So just the simple thing as saying Bring the heat was all out of wack as they were echoes everywhere in my head set, I have gotten much better at it now but that first time was absolutely bananas.
What has been the most rewarding part of your journey as an artist so far?
I consider myself more of a producer/engineer, although you can find me directly on some of my new creations with auto tune . The most rewarding I would say is working with great Indie artist such Eluozo, Donna Cristy, and Olha they are very talented artist’s and I love working with them.
How has the music industry changed since you started, and what impact has it had on your career?
The Industry has changed drastically in many ways, I remember when artists use to make flyers and place them on neighbor hood cars and doors to announce where they would be performing or selling t shirts and cd’s out for trunks of cars, those were the real hustler days, now it’s just a click of a mouse sitting at home or wherever to try an build a fan base, no one is in the streets anymore, it’s all computerized done form computers and mobile phones, that’s a major paradigm shift.
How do you see your music evolving in the next few years?
I see my music evolving into me becoming a better producer and engineer, maybe more creativity in my tracks and songwriting, hopefully making a tune for one of the major artists or even having a major collaboration.
What’s one thing about the music industry that you wish more people knew?
I don’t really know, it can be bittersweet, as many great things can be accomplished and at the same time there are many wolves in this industry that artists and creators need to watch for. I have come across my share especially in the distribution section, royalties always seems to be garnished on pay day.
